TPPB Directors
Larry Don Womack
TPPB Chairman
DeLeon, Texas
Larry Don Womack farms 1200-1400 acres in De Leon, Texas. Womack grows peanuts, pecans, cotton and has a fruit orchard. In addition, he raises approximately 100 head of cattle.
Womack has been farming for 35 years. He said farming peanuts is his passion and his only hobbies involve farming peanuts and raising cattle.
While Womack is very active with his farming operation, he is also chairman of the Texas Peanut Producers Board and continually works for the research and promotion of peanuts.
“Anytime I can help farmers across the state increase yields and profitably promote peanut products through research, it’s a good feeling,” Womack said.
Womack is interested in increasing peanut yields, efficiently addressing food safety concerns, and providing high quality products to consumers. While these issues are continually important, the 2012 Farm Bill will be equally crucial for peanut producers to keep in mind, Womack said.
“The country is going through major economic revisions and we are outnumbered in agriculture,” Womack said. “It’s important that we find representation for agricultural interests and farmers get involved with groups that can help them out the most.”
Even with Womack’s many activities, he finds time to devote to his family. He has been married to his wife Lori for 29 years and they have two children: Latonya Rosburough, a Texas A&M University graduate and mother of two, and Tyler who graduated from Texas Tech University in December 2010.
Womack enjoys spending time with his grandchildren in his free time.
