Louis Grissom
Seminole, Texas
Louis Grissom farms two miles north of Seminole, Texas. Louis farms 400 acres of peanuts, 1,000 acres of cotton and 500 acres of rye. Grissom has been farming for over 40 years.
Being a third-generation farmer helped him establish a stable farming operation. Louis was born to farm and believes that the Lord has given him this career, with intention.
“I was raised farming and the Lord revealed where I am meant to be, which is on a farm,” Louis said, “I think you can say that I was called to be a farmer.”
While Louis is an active board member for TPPB, he also runs West Texas Center Pivots & Pumps with his brother Jimbo. This company repairs and sets pumps for local farmers within a 250 mile radius of Seminole.
Serving on the Board is important to Louis and he enjoys the learning experience that being a part of TPPB offers.
“The Board allows me to have a voice,” Louis said, “I enjoy the opportunity to serve my area and the chance to keep track of the ag-related research that continually advances.”
The Board has many goals for helping peanut producers, but Louis says he hopes to serve peanut farmers in a fashion that will give them the best return, whether through promotion or research.
“I am interested in how the 2012 Farm Bill will affect us,” Louis said. “Although politics are important, both promotion and research will equally impact the Texas peanut industry as a whole.”
According to Louis, the 2012 Farm Bill could affect farmers if conservation should be used for program payments. He thinks that the farm program is currently going strong and if changes are made they should be for the benefit of producers.
Aside from the farm, Louis has been married to his wife Nancy, who has been his great support, for 40 years. They have three married daughters: Amanda Reese, Melanie Ray and Crystal Clark.
Louis enjoys being involved with his church and spending time with his seven grandkids. He sums up his career, family and success by thanking the Lord, who is responsible for them all.
